Why Japan? You may ask. Well, Japan is one of the most special countries in the world in so many ways. Japan has developed many aspects of its culture that have become totally unique and different from the rest of the world. From its unique anime and manga, the otaku culture to its sumo wrestlers, Geishas, Samurais and Ninjas and to its food, Japan is unlike any other country. Its service and politeness is unrivalled, for me it is the most polite and well-mannered country not just in Asia but in the whole world! (Yes there are rude japanese too but they are very few and far between.) Whether you are at the Ritz-Carlton or in 7-eleven, the service is always very good as they take every job they do with utmost pride, even at McDonald’s! I fell in love on my very 1st day in Tokyo.
Here are just two examples from my Japanese journeys,
When I was in Fukuoka, I went to a 7-eleven to ask for directions to my hotel. The auntie at the counter was so nice that she didn’t just tell me but she stopped work and informed her colleague that she was closing her counter for a while. She then took me out to the street and pointed where I should head clearly, making sure that I understood what she was trying to tell me despite my almost non-exisistent level of Japanese then. The best part was that it was in winter and she braved the elements to help me!
In Kamakura(near Tokyo), I was looking for directions after trekking all day and the sun had already set. I happen to pass by a bakery shop along the road and I went in to ask. I then asked the lady baker and to my surprise, dressed only in her bakers’ attire, she, without even bothering to put on her coat, took me all the way out to the main road to show me the way. And it was a winter’s night!
If you are keen to travel and learn more about its culture, Japan will reward you like no other country does.
